Dig a planting pit wider than the root ball and enrich the excavated soil with well-rotted compost before planting. Position the sapling upright, firm the soil gently around the roots, and water thoroughly. During the first few months, irrigate regularly and apply mulch around the base to conserve moisture and encourage healthy root development.
